If there were any doubts about the fact that genetic variety produces the most beautiful creatures, Sarah Lysander Svendby Carter is a clear proof of the fact. Half Norwegian, quarter Nigerian and quarter English she is a successful young model and content creator from Great Britain.
A true Londoner. From acting to modeling
Sarah was born and grew up in North London that allowed her, as she says, “to focus on whatever I wanted, from acting to being a full time model whilst still having the benefit of living close to the family.” And even now, having visited over 16 countries, she stays a true Londoner, very much attached to the city and unwilling to leave it for long. Her career started in 2014 right after her graduation from The Brits School of Performing Arts where she studied theatre. Her professors used to tell her to consider a modeling job as a way to have extra money, but then it turned out to be far more promising path. First, she starred in a music track by Disclosure & London Grammar, which by the way, has over 9M of views so far. Then the first modeling contracts came, and by the time she was working as a model full-time all over the globe, Instagram that she did not consider seriously in the beginning brought her new opportunities, new meetings and new challenges.
A story behind the “Lysander Swim” brand
But it would be too easy for her to settle down with nice career both on- and off-line. So, in 2019 Sarah decided to start her swimwear brand – ‘Lysander Swim’ – to fill the gap in the market for a fun and sexy bikini. “As a model I have tried on more swimwear than most girls have had hot dinners” – is joking Sarah, and continues, “My friends constantly asked me where I got my swimwear from (that I actually brought from my working travels to Australia and the USA). But no one wants to overpay for the pricey swimsuit, plus the shipping and custom taxes”. So, Sarah took the lead and started to cater to all bikini fans in the UK. She participates in every production stage and creates the design of the models by herself. And her prints are hence inspired by personal stories and memories. For instance, ‘Topsy Turvy Heart’, she tells us, was inspired by a night-long talk with her closest friends about the ups and downs of love that all of us have lived through at least once. “This wonderful girly night made me think how differently everyone experiences love. When I got home, I came up with the first print design – love hearts – all over my bikinis, some face up and some face down, to show the variety of our beating hearts.”
About time management and living her best life
Now she is in process of designing her next bikini styles looking for inspiration around. “Being a city girl, I get inspired by talented women I’m surrounded by,” tells Sarah. On our question how she manages all this at her 24, she laughs – she doesn’t see any problem to combine modeling jobs, running a company, being in relations and having fun with her friends from time to time. “I am so grateful that I do not have this working routine, nine to five job… My days are all different. Today I’m waiting for new pieces of fabric to arrive, tomorrow new samples are created. This way of life makes me feel really happy,” – confesses Sarah.
“If you have something to do, do it today, not tomorrow,” – this is her moto. She explains that in the modeling industry it’s so easy to get carried away with the lifestyle. But it’s always important to remember that partying all the time doesn’t nurture your true passion, whether you dream of starting a brand or learning the language. Start now. Do it today. Not tomorrow.
