We do not know much about her despite the fact that she seems to be exposed to social media 24/7. Not even easy to say where she comes from… With her signature red lips and cat eyelines, she looks like an actress from the French cinema classics. And young artists do love to invite her to star in their short films. But actually, she is an heiress to a quite different tradition.
“I am an artist; I do not want to be seen just as a pretty face”
The Texas-born, L.A. bred French/Colombian, she spent her early childhood in Houston, dreaming about the space close to NASA headquarter. But wherever she came from, it’s difficult to find someone who will be more sensitive to different aesthetics, more willing to embrace other cultures and visions and so organic adapting different styles than Taylor LaShae.
How it all started
She began her passion for imagery working as an agent in modelling agency. She loved being behind the scenes as long as she can remember herself. But working on other people’s careers she was learning about her own. The X moment seems to come when she moved to Paris joining the creative team of The Kooples brand. Saturated cultural life of the French capital turned out to be propitious for the artist and the world finally met Taylor as an iconic French, whose we all strive to find but has not already seen for several decades.
Since then Taylor travelled around the world, trying to capture and reach her ultimate image. She lost a lot of the thrill for recognition and gained it for the sake of being genuine and true to herself. The ambassador of true romance she gets inspired by old cinema, poetry, Polaroid film shots and whatever can revive memories. And actually, if you try to describe her aesthetics in several words, nostalgic and sentimental would figure on the list without any doubt.
And this subtle, nostalgic universe seems to be highly appealing to fashion and beauty brands that strive to work with her whatever conditions she agrees on. She edits every single photo and video, does not speak a lot to the IG community and carefully chooses what Fashion houses to collaborate with. Yet she says to fail to curate her IG feed, having the only tactic to apply – not to make it look like she’s selling anything. “When I work with a brand, I just put it on and go about my day — I don’t like to put something on, go stage a photo shoot only to take it off seconds later. I think that’s the difference between me and say, a model who is going to a job with a specific purpose. It’s fun for me to play with Instagram, edit photos and choose filters. With my headphones in, it’s my favorite creative outlet.”
Taylor is very much about controversy – she is serious and funny, close and distant, magnetic and unattainable at the same time. She herself admits being unable to define who she is and what she is doing. Whether she’s an influencer, model or actress… or a space nerd who is dreaming about interstellar flights and distant galaxies. “I don’t like to have it listed that I’m a model, because I find it annoying. I grew up in Houston and keep on being passionate about the astronomy. I love asking why we’re here, and how we are here—the bigger questions. You can deep dive into a place that you don’t even understand, it’s unfathomable. That’s what I love—it really blows my mind. It fascinates me more than any fashion tip, to be honest.”
